How long does it take to scan the animal?
Under normal conditions, you can expect each animal to take 3 to 4 minutes. My priority is not getting your cattle in and out of the chute as fast as possible. Quality is what matters. Some animals scan quick and others can be challenging. Whatever it takes, you will have solid, accurate scans!

How long does it take to get the results?
After the scanning session is complete, the results are forwarded to the lab for processing and they in turn, submit the data to the breed association. Once the association is finished, they will send the final results to the breeder. From start to finish, your looking at about 7-10 days.
How far in advance should I contact you about scheduling a scanning session?
During the scanning season, my schedule does fill up very quick. Saturdays are always the first to go. If you need the data back for breeding purposes or for your sale, the sooner the better. I work around the breeders schedule and do everything possible to make things easier for them. Usually a few weeks notice though works just fine.
Since you have scanning facilities at your ranch, how often do you take appointments?
During the scanning season, I set aside a few weeks here and there just for on-site scanning sessions. That way I can plan on having a number of breeders arrive during the week for Ultrasound work. But if that doesn't fit into your schedule that's okay! I will scan your cattle whenever it's convenient for you! Even if you have one or two head, bring'em over. I will scan anytime! If I bring cattle to your ranch for scanning, how long will it take?
When you arrive at the ranch, I will be ready to go. The equipment will already be set up and the only thing I will need is the cattle out of your trailer. For the most part, you should be in and out within an hour or so.
What do you charge to ultrasound?
My fees are based on herd size so it varies... The more cattle you have for scanning, the better price I can offer you. This is a competitive market and I will compete for your business. I do offer larger discounts if you bring your cattle to our ranch for scanning (8 head or less) and I always gives fellow Veterans a discount. Just send me over an email and I will get back to you with a quote.
Do you ever give classes or ultrasound demonstrations?
Absolutely! If you are an instructor, teacher or in charge of a 4H club, I'm always happy to put on demonstrations. Either at your establishment or here at the ranch. I think it's important to educate the young ranchers on the ultrasound process and how it benefits the beef industry as a whole.
Do you set up at local or county fairs?
Yes I certainly do. County fairs are great to be a part of and I enjoy doing them very much. I just don't do the scanning, I also demonstrate the process for the kids and parents as well. They need to know why you scan animals and the benefits from doing it. Carcass evaluations are very popular and more and more people are entering their cattle in the events. If you would like me to participate in your local fair, please
I just run commercial cattle and don't want to scan, can you still help me find the right genetics to bring into my herd?
Absolutley... I consult with a number of commercial programs and help them find the right cattle to fit their enviroment. Genetics and bull selection are extremley important... I scan thousands of bulls and heifers each year and know what genetics work, and which ones don't. My business is carcass genetics, I can help improve your herd even without scanning them. Please give me a call anytime if you are in the market for range bulls or replacements. There are sales throughout the state and since I attend most of them, I'm usually there and can answer any questions you have on the cattle from an ultrasound perspective.
If you have a question about ultrasound, please let me know. I'd be happy to post your question right here on the website!!!
